Breaking News: Similac Recall

(We just got the official recalled Similac product list from Abbott. Please pass it around to your friends with formula-drining infants.)

At first it sounded like a prank: Five million containers of Similac formula recalled for…possible bug parts? But here’s the official Abbott page on its Similac recall.

It says: “Abbott is recalling these products following an internal quality review, which detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility.”

Given how expensive formula is — doesn’t it strike you as somehow wrong that it’s often shelved behind lock and key in drug stores? — there’s no need to just throw all your containers out. You can check whether a given jar is good here — if the site is holding up under the heavy traffic — or call (800) 986-8850.

Inevitable quip as I think about bug parts in a baby’s bottle: Maybe the Similac slogan should be not StrongMoms but Moms With Strong Stomachs?

  • Hopeitha97

YET ANOTHER REASON TO BREASTFEED……. your breastmilk will NEVER be recalled.

  • Pamela79034

Isnt all the grocery stores, department stores, etc…. suppose to pull the recalled formula???? I went and bought a can today and instinct just told me to check the lot number and sure enough it was recalled. Cant they get into trouble for still having that on the shelves??

  • guest

They say that the recall is only certain series like RN or whatever, but I accidently gave my son a bottle full of beetles and the series on the can was RE, the one they are saying is safe, so I wouldn’t suggest using any of the powder formula of Similac Sensitive. I am so digusted with the company, its our children’s health we are talking about, they need to recall all of it, not just the RN series, because I don’t believe any of them are safe.

  • Liabenow735

I called 1-888-376-2054 and got through right away. first you go through their menue and they will let you know if your formula is on the recall list just by asking a few simple questions. I did find out that if you have any empty containers that you should send those back. I went to walmart first because everyone said i could return even the empty cans there and i was told no by the service clerk actually she made me feel stupid by saying NO you have to have formula left in the can so they can test we can’t help you. Never going to that walmart again. They need to get their information right. Abbott wants you to send back empty containers. I already filled out their form now just have to wait for the Fed Ex pre paid shipping lables.

  • Michelelb3

My son got very sick. I think there should be a class action lawsuit.

    • jp

A lawsuit is ridiculous. Some of our children have been drinking contaminated formula and you see dollar signs. You should be proud!

  • Ashaffield

I’ve read a lot of comments and yes the children will be fine now that we all know, but what I want to know is how long has this actually been in their product? This is hospitals choice to use and the most expensive brand, my son has been sick and I spend 150.00 a month in formula to this company, they make a great deal of money off of this economy and I think they should be able to afford proper testing ahead of time. I have problems with the fact that these are our babies and they don’t mind if beetles run around and shit in our baby food…that is until someone finds out. They are concerned then, but they should have been taking proper precations. This is a multi-million dollar company, they could have avoided this

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3DE5RUAY4PFTRPCSCM6OMV64I JohnnyCakes

      Try multi-billion dollar company! http://www.marketwatch.com/investing/stock/ABT/profile

I am so pissed off that I spend the premium amount of money it costs for this formula and this is the quality control a $1 an ounce gets. It’s ridiculous. Now I also see the Similac Organic generic version on Walmart is exactly the same thing since that is now out of stock (pulled) too! I’m going to go for Costco generic now and pray for the best. My baby has been sickly at night for over 2 weeks now and it is the symtoms similar speaks of. At least we know what it is, but it makes me sick to my stomach for my baby. He has had some seriously painful gas from this batch. I’ve fought my wife on the name brand stuff but still the peace of mind is what she wants. Well here it is. I still want to go with goats milk as my baby boy already suffers from GERD. We can’t trust anyone these days. What is this formula made in China? Mexico? They won’t even release the plant location that is affected.

    • Johnson Tran

I just have only one son, and I choose Similac for my son. Now Similac had issue, and my son is sick now by Similac. Do I need to trust in Similac? I am so hurt when I heard that my son be sick by Similac.
      Johnson

  • guest

I have 6 cans of empty similac senstive soy, and they are all recalled. That means they are recalling formula that’s been out for over 2 months. And no health risk? I won’t even feed my baby icing off of a cake, let alone bug parts!

  • Bak0np0int424

i just hope my newborn son dont get sick thanks to who ever posted on news bc i was giving one can of power to my baby boy nd untill today i found out it was old

  • UnhappyMom

My 8 month old Daughter is on the 23.2 oz Jar of Similac RS Sensitive, which is one of the products affected by the recall. She had experienced extremely bad diarrhea and fevers and an extremely bad diaper rash for a few days (she rarely gets sick and never had diaper rash before). We took her to the doctor and the doctor could not figure out what was wrong. Luckily since she is able to eat solids we minimized the amount of milk she would normally intake and substituted it with pedialyte, juice etc and she improved.
Its absolutely horrible and unthinkable that this could happen to INFANT formula.
Unfortunately I am a working mom that cannot breastfeed anymore. I was trusting that the Similac brand name, since its very well known, would be able to consistently provide high quality formula for my child . I certainly do not trust them any more and have switched to Enfamil AR Lipil. They say that the effected formula has been out for about 1 month-5 weeks but you truly wonder if it may be even more time than that and I’ve been giving my infant daughter this contaminated formula this whole time !
I called the 1-800 number because I was concerned with any long term effects that this may have on my child, and I was told there wasn’t anything reported so far …. but who knows. What upset me was the operator on the phone could at least have been sympathetic and apologetic but she was almost rude. How could this even happen? How filthy was their facility? Aren’t’ they supposed to do Quality Control and Inspections to make sure this kind of stuff doesn’t happen? I am truly disgusted with Similac/ Abbott and I’m sure other angry parents feel the same way I do. This is just wrong !
Infants are so delicate and sensitive and it saddens me to hear other parents horror stories of their babies having to be admitted to the hospital due to extreme dehydration, etc due to Similac’s Negligence !

We know that there are still some difficulties with the Similac recall website (http://similac.com/recall). We’ve heard requests for a lot number lookup, and it is here. You can search for your lot number in the PDF list here: http://abbott.vo.llnwd.net/o18/similac/sms/pdf/similac-recall-lot-numbers.pdf. Once you get this information, if you are at all concerned, please continue trying to reach us at 1-800-986-8850. You can’t get anyone on the phone what is the nuber on the can that we have to look out for anyone

  • JENN

My son has reflux and we have been trying to find a formula that works for him. He quit drinking Similac Advanced and Similac Sensitive powders. We then went to Alimentum. I know it is not recalled but he will not drink powdered Alimentum but he will drink ready to feed. I don’t know if it is because of the recall that he doesnt like powder or if it is just him. Now that I am looking into it I realized everytime he “stopped” eating he was on a powder. I am wondering if his reflux was getting worse or if it was the formula. He was great on Similac Sensitive and Zantac for a week before I got a case of the powder. HMMM!

  • Peter Smith

What to watch out for if it on the recall…If the baby been eating this for 4 months what potential down fall will this play out?

My son has been in and out of the HR and Urgent care over the weekend with a fever, refusing to drink his bottle and throwing up his food.. I am now aware of why.. He has been on similac since he was three months old, I find this very disturbing and pray that there are no long term affects..

To everyone here listing your babies symptoms: Please do not forget that babies dehydrate much faster than adults do. If your baby has been having diarrhea and or vomiting for more than a few days, you should be thinking about calling your Dr.! This is very serious and scary, and I am praying for all of you and your Babies!

I also called the 847-937-6100 number and talked to someone within about 2 minutes.

Mine are not on the recall list. She said that there are no lots with the number “9″ at the beginning on the recall list. Here are the numbers that I had: 90371T20 and 90372T20 which were both bought at Babies-r-us in the Seattle area.

Hope this helps some of you!

    • Sakkjk

Abbott just called me back and my jars are actually recalled. So please disregard the information I posted above since it is no longer relevant. Honestly I am impressed that the same gal called me back to ensure that I had proper information because she didn’t have a full list.

If you get through to someone via the phone number I posted above they will take your phone number and address and will send you Fed Ex shipping boxes and labels for all opened or unopened jars of your recalled product. Then you will receive a refund check from them in a few weeks. You can also try to go to: http://similac.com/recall/lookup.aspx directly if you are still having problems with the recall URL and you might have better luck getting in but it’s very slow. Even the system she was having to use was horribly slow because of all the volumes of people accessing it. Good luck everyone!

    88078T30 NOT recalled

88112T20 plastic container with flip top recalled!!

  • Ksk52502

Anyone know if the code 91480T20 is on the recall list? I have 3/4 of a container left. My daughter is 5 1/2 mo old and I cant afford to go out and just buy formula whenever…….
She had a stomach bug last week and I am wondering if that was a container that was on the recall list

    • Butterfly883

it probably is all t2 or t20s have been infected my son had vomiting and diahrea too!

    • Cinderella10383

Take it back to the store you got it from, and they will issue you a store credit and you can get enfamil or some other kind of formula like gerber goodstart, I prefer enfamil but it is your choice

  • Srsohehl

I’ve tried calling Abbott and I’ve tried calling Similac. Similac hangs up on you and Abbott has a steady busy signal. I understand recalls happen. My only concern is the side effects if your container is contaminated. I’m sure only very few are contaminated out of the hundreds of thousands recalled, but I want to know the side effects. I’ve already checked the webite and my lot # (87971t212118090) was recalled and my son had already consumed almost the whole container. I wish everyone and their children well.

  • Thaangelashely88

every one is getting aggravated i didnt even know about the recall untill my sister called me because we dont have a tv right now which aggravated me again because i should be able to trust the food i am giving me 3 wk old baby is safe and for those of you who are about to say it bacause some one always does i will first i know i could trust if it i breast fed but i cant because my baby was a month early they had him in nicu and i have supply issues and i have no more milk i cant get through to the site no one would answer the phone but i will tell you if it helps if you or some one you know has aol it WILL load the website it just takes for ever (i had to call my friends mom and have her look) and i dont know what cans are affected but i know that lot number 90752re6 is NOT affected thank god cause i got 6 cans and no car right now and a little man waking up cause he is getting hungry

    • Scarlet79

That was the world’s longest sentence… but I’m glad your formula isn’t affected. 3 weeks old and no car – that would completely suck if your formula was affected. :)

    • Klarson

I’m also glad that your formula is fine. The first few weeks are tough…and I know that you’re just trying so hard to do well for your little man. I’m so glad that he is growing and out of the NICU!

  • Rachel Zimmerman

    Folks:

    Here’s more info: http://commonhealth.wbur.org/2010/09/more-info-on-similac-recall-t20-batches-affected/

T20 batches are affected; Target has pulled all recalled product from shelves so it seems safe to buy formula there.

  • Dbell241

My Daughter is 7months now similac advanced is the only formula i ever used….. I have to take my daughter to doctor to make sure she is OK….. Abbot has no answers or any info???? My Daughter seems to be fine but with this recall im really nerves……

  • guest

Also try the nutrition area phone number (800) 227-5767

  • Venusblueeyez

This is very fustrating. i can’t get through when I call Similac. Their web page is apparently down or being over flooded with visitors because I can’t access the recall list their either. I know contamination happens from time to time, but I’d like to not give my 4 month old contaminated formula and my local store has no info for me. He’s been sick for 4 days since we picked up a few new cans from the store. Shouldn’t a public list of lot numbers be available just like with the egg recall??????

  • guest

FYI – I gave up on the website and phone numbers and decided to call Abbots HQ directly. If you call (847) 937-6100 you can speak to a live person – just press 0 for the operator and they will transfer you to a person who can help…

    • LaKrisha

They just gave me a diffrent number 800.227.5767!

      • guest

They gave me that number too, I tried and it was busy so I called back and wouldn’t take no for an answer…

    • parent1

hey similac site is up and I checked…..

    • Similacstrongmoms

If you’re having trouble getting through to our Similac recall consumer hotline, we have added a new, additional phone # for you: 888-376-2054. Please give us a call, 24/7. We’d like to hear from you! ~Similac Team

      • guest

Nice try Similac team – but calling that number left me on hold for 20 minutes. SUPER helpful.

      • Runfeefeerun

Are they going to refund for all the boxes of the same formula bought for 4 months with a receipt?? Are they going to pay for my doctors visits when I couldnt figure out WHY my baby had horrible stomach pain even after I gave Mylicon thinking it was gas!! This is ridiculous!!!!

  • guest

why aren’t most of you breast feeding your kids?? I know there are exceptions, but common. You want to avoid all this? Do it the way you were created to.

    • Rosalenemartinez

Is 86798RB6 and 90666RE6 on recall?

    • kate

maybe you need to not butt into our personal reasons why we are using formula.

    • Butterfly883

you some ppl just cant i did till my son was 10 months old

    • Scarlet79

Wow, I never thought to breastfeed. If you’re breastfeeding your kid, why are you reading this article, unless it’s to just post negative things. People are already ridiculously stressed out, let’s not add with your personal opinions on how horrible of mothers everyone is for not breastfeeding.

    • Anonymous

well just to let u know not all babies take breast milk. and like scarlet79 said y r u reading this article.

    • guest

You are so ignorant. Some people aren’t able to breastfeed, some make the choice not to. It’s not your place to judge.

    • StartUrOwnThread

I am so sick and tired of the damn breastfeeders acting all high and mighty. Which is funny because you are the same people who do all this good giving breastmilk but then give you baby’s baby food from a jar. Which I make from scratch with all organic produce.

Need to stop trying to lecture people about it. Do you really think that all mother’s don’t want to breastfeed? Alot do and can’t for whatever reason. Do you really think we didn’t feel guilty about not being able to? None of us need to hear your ranting and raving. The only people who should be responding is the people it affects. Start your own thread and leave us formula feeders alone.

My 4 month old son has had diarrhea for 6 days straight, which all started a few days after we switched to the powder formula. I thought he had a stomache bug, so we gave him pedialyte to flush his system for 24 hours then reintroduced to his formula at half strength for 2 days. The diarrhea has actually gotten worse and to top it off he started projectile vomitting and won’t eat. He hasnt eaten anything in 24 hours and prior to that what he did eat he couldnt keep in him. Now he wont even take the pedialyte. Our formula was one that was effected by the recall. So for similac to say that there are no health risk besides a tummy ache is bullshit. I hope that for his syke he is not sick and it was the formula. It is awful to think that I forced him to eat as he was trying to tell me something was wrong!

    • Sdj14

Your story sounds very familar. Our 6 month old is also having diarrhea for 6 days now after opening a new can of similac sinsative. He was to the point of vomitting Wednesday when the recall came out. We instantly stopped but his system is so messed up we can’t get the diarrhea to go away. We even game his some of my frozen breast milk but he was too sick for it to help. We have tried going 24 hours with out any food just pedialyte. Hopefully it will do the trick. Good luck

You should do a complaint on http://www.fda.gov

  • Jlizzie01

So I know they say that the liquid is not contaminated but I’m still a little worried. Do you think I should just switch to a whole different brand or trust using the liquid? My poor daughter has been sick all because I have been feeding her this stuff!

  • Lorapayne

Does anyone know about similac advance with the number 88123RE6? I have a 2 month old granddaughter and we can’t find out anything

as far as i know all the “re” formula is NOT affected but you should still check to be sure

I’m so mad! We’ve been having stomach issues since last week. My 8 week old daughter has already comsumed 2 cans of the effected formula. We even called Similac and filled a report last week when she suddenly started having problems. After a trip to the ER and many tests yesterday still no answers until today. I would bet the formula is to blame!

if u go to http://www.similac.com/recall/lookup that site works a lot of t2 and re are recalled my son ate 2 cans of the contaminated stuff………… so frustrating

    • Scarlet79

Not everything that is recalled is contaminated. They’re just covering their butts. So even if you have recalled formula, it could still be perfectly fine. I’m still returning all of mine (it’s in a tub, so it’s part of the recall) and buying Enfamil. It’s just easier for now.

    • Kelleyhall99

Thank you for this post. I cannot get on the website either.

  • kate

This is driving me mad, I think I only hve two affected containers, assuming the only affected lot codes are RB and T2 but still its enough to drive me nuts. As to the person who said we all eat hotdogs with wierd stuff in them, we are not infants with weak immune systems.

  • Porshahicks

Anyone experiencing side effects. My daughter has had loose stool and a cough since Saturday. I thought it was because I switched her to stage 3 food. I am freaking out as I just heard about this and all 3 of her containers are recalled.

  • Iprice

Does anyone know if Similac Advanced Complete Nutrition liquid is recalled?

    • guest

The release from Abbot says it’s powdered formulas only…no liquid.

  • guest

DOUBLE CHECK if your lot was recalled…two of us got two different answers for the same recall – one said NOT recalled the other said it WAS recalled……CHECK AGAIN EVERYONE!

    • guest

      The same lot…

  • Amberlina kitsume

    89468RE6 is not recalled

  • Amberlina kitsume

Hey everyone lot numbers 88107T20 and 90395T20 are RECALLED…!

    88078T30 recalled

    • guest

I checked this one about a half hour ago…it said NOT recalled…guess we all better double check what we’re getting for responses!

    • guest

Per their website, this lot still shows at NOT RECALLED.

  • guest

Get over it people. These things happen. Just find out if your formula is affected and deal with it. We’re all concerned parents…but it just happens.

    • Megg1018

you know what you get over it whenever your bby is sick then u will see

      • guest

Funny, because my baby is already sick…he was born at only 1 lb 15 oz and has A LOT of special needs (to name a few – an oxygen tank, an apnea monitor, 2 hernias, DIGESTIVE problems and he sees different specialists weekly), I think I know a thing or two about having a sick child. Many of you are saying ignorant things about the company, etc, oh whoa is me – recalls happen all the time. You deal with them and you move on. No need to sit here and whine. I’m sure you wouldn’t understand – you’re apparently not that bright.

    • Donna0582

what do you mean get over it.sound like you really don’t care, and we are trying to find out about formula.i pray theres noting wrong with your formula

      • guest

Sorry, I was frustrated when posting – people keep posting things that just sound foolish. I meant it more as, although we’re upset with the company – recalls aren’t unusual so people need to stop all of the crazy comments about suing them, etc. We all just need to find out if our formula is affected and take the proper steps. Obviously none of us want to give our babies infected formula….but suing the company? That’s just crazy.

      • guest

And please don’t think I don’t care. I’ve been through more with my 7 month old son then most people have to in a lifetime. I am an excellent parent that takes care of a sick child every single day.

    • Jlizzie01

I’m guessing the formula you are using isnt being recalled. I would like to see you just get over your baby being contaminated with bugs and getting sick because of it…. but its cool…you just need to get over it right!? I understand things happen but when it comes to my child im not going to just get over it!

      • guest

You’re an idiot. Next time get the facts before you act like one.

      • guest

        And mine WAS recalled.

    • AppauledMother

You can say that, but your daughter hasn’t been sick for the past week with digestive problems. I will never trust Abbott or Similac again. They are equivalent to FEMA and BP

      • guest

No, my son has been sick for the past 7 months and spent 93 days of that time in a hospital ICU. Clearly I must not understand. I had contaminated formula as well, I still trust the company. However, burn me twice and I’m done.

      • Shithead

you sound like an absolute idiot.

        • guest

          As do you.

        • guest

I think your name says it all.

    • Allison_danna

Get over it!!!!!!!????????? Are you kidding me???? THis is ridiculous. Would you like beetles in your food! Maybe you should deal with being a better parent :)

      • guest

Yes, I’m a terrible parent because I don’t want to sue a company over a recall. That makes me a bad Mother. I get it, thanks for the clarification genius.

    • UnhappyMom

Get over it? I don’t think you would think this way if it was your infant actually consumed this contaminated formula and got extremely sick over it. How can you call yourself a “concerned parent “? And it shouldn’t just happen ! We’re talking about Infants and a primary food source (Formula) for many parents who can’t breastfeed ! It should NEVER happen !

      • guest

Well I’m actually a realistic person who understands that recalls happen…I don’t think it’s okay, I don’t want my son to be sick, I don’t want him eating contaminated formula however, I’m not going to sue the company over it. That’s just foolish. I am absolutely a concerned parent, you know nothing of what my son has been through, it’s highly likely he’s probably gone through more than your child(ren) will in a lifetime. I too could not breastfeed, my son was born at only 28 weeks and I wasn’t able to produce then. I agree it should never happen but the simple fact is, it does. We all hate it, but it does.

      • RUNFEEFEERUN

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE IT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN!!! THEY SHOULD REIMBURSE US FOR HOSPITAL VISITS EVERY TIME BABY HAD TERRIBLE STOMACH PAIN!!! RIDICULOUS!!

  • Nicoleb

  • Jes

does anyone know if 88355RE6 is recalled?

    • Pooh67may

88355RE6 Not recalled, I just spoke to them and this was my lot number. However 88111T20 was recalled(I also have this one)!

  • EliPhillips91

ok i have two new cans of Similac Sensitive that i just bought and have barely got to use and now i have to wait 4-6 weeks to get my money back well that really does help me right now i want my money back or free cans of formula i basicially wasted 40 dollars on two cans GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK now i only have a small can that is half gone that isnt recalled just great thanks for the bugs similac i will be sure to change brands after i get my money back

    • Heatherlw13

I too had 2 cans of recalled formula and I still had the receipts. If you have the receipt you can take it back to the store, tell them it is recalled and they will give you your money back. Walmart honored this policy.

    • Cinderella10383

take them back to the store you purchased from and get a store credit and get a different brand of formula you only have to wait 4-6 weeks if you want a refund by check but if you want to exchange them just go to the store you purchased them from

  • Audreylizbeth

Can anyone out there tell me if similac advance lot 89472RE6 is in the recall list.

  • ashleyp003

if the letters in the number have rb recalled and

  • Similac Team

To those having trouble, we sincerely apologize for the site difficulties we are currently experiencing at http://www.similac.com. We are working diligently to resolve the issues and expect to have it resolved soon. Please check back later to determine if you have any of the impacted powder product and arrange for return and reimbursement. Thank you for your patience. ~Similac Team

    • Ddconey

can you just post a list of the affected lots?

    • Teresa

Why can’t you post the lot numbers here since we can’t get through by phone or at similac.com??

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ZHYLQ46CU5YTKLAW2WZQNIC3LE Similac Team

We understand this is frustrating and want to let you know we’re working around the clock to get you the details you need, since we know you’ve experienced challenges getting through to our site and phone line. While we’re increasing call center resources and expanding the bandwidth of our site, you can use this rule of thumb: If you have Similac brand powder in a rectangular, plastic tub, it IS part of the recall. If you have liquid infant formula, it is NOT part of the recall. If you have powder in cans, please continue trying to reach us with your lot number(s).

If you have a product impacted by this recall, please discontinue use of it immediately. You’ll need to visit a local store to purchase a Similac liquid product or alternative infant formula to feed your baby. We very much appreciate your continued patience. ~Similac Team

      • Time2switch2Enfamil

On the directions it says to wash hands properly, use sterile bottles and use sterile water. Why tell us to go to those extremes when clearly your factory isn’t sterile? Since clearly your factory isn’t sterile, why are you continuing to make and sell formula that is being fed to tiny babies?

  • Jenniferpittman06

    any with rb are affected!

  • Jennifer711

Does anyone know if the organic is affected???

  • Barbiegirl41487

I was just wondering if anyone knows if it’s just the powder formula that’s affected by this recall, or if it’s the liquid formula also? My baby’s been taking the liquid (instant) Similac Adcance formula.

    • Kayla14sd

So far liquid formula is not being recalled!

  • Pissed

Their site in not holding up to Shit

  • Jackie

Just called my local Target and she said that their store policy is if you bring in a recalled product that they sell, they will give you your money back or issue a store credit even without a receipt. So I’m taking mine back there (I’m positive I bought it there, but can’t find the receipt).

  • Kemiller9

just called Target and they said that basically all similac advance in the containers has been recalled. the single on the go packets are not on the list though. they didn’t say anything about certain lot numbers…I am going to get rid of all of mine just to be on the safe side.

  • Ddconey

Not add fuel to the fire but my local Target is pulling all their Similac power products. Apparently all the stuff we have is bad. My wife is out scouring the local groceries for the liquid stuff as we speak. We have one 8 month old who apparently is going to have about a year’s worth of similac liquid and Target brand bay formula powder to polish off.

On a more serious note — the Target manager says you don’t need a receipt to return recalled products. Also on the Similac webpage the link to submit your name and address for return fed-ex labels (to return the stuff directly to Abbot) doesn’t appear to be woirking. This might just be a load issue but whatever the cause we can’t seem to submit our info for return labels.

    • Ddconey

sorry about the typos .. the Target is pulling its SImilac powder products.

  • Julissa

Similac sensative lot# 83229T2 and 89231T20 and the stores don’t know yet well at least my local walmart. They haven’t been told yet.

  • julissa

My three containers are recalled also. They said according to the fda that is it safe.. I’m checking with the doctor tomorrow. The liquid form is safe though.

Thanks, Dina. I don’t understand why Similac doesn’t just provide the damned lot number on all these forums. Instead they drive us to an overloaded website and a busy 800 number. Similac’s PR team needs to take a Social Media 101 class… Way to go Similac…. You blew it Abbott…

  • Maria

Lot #91571T20 is recalled. I also could not check any further lot #’s d/t high volume. I did just see a news brief online that said the recall includes all powder formulas in plastic containers and in the small 12oz cans. The liquid is safe so that’s what I just went and bought.

  • momx4

I have four children and I can understand why you would get upset. Who wants to feed their child something that ‘could’ have beetle parts in it. There is an article and it says: “Abbott is recalling these products following an internal quality review, which detected the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility.”

“The Food and Drug Administration says the Similac containing the bugs poses no immediate health risk”

We all eat hot dogs and we all know that there is a certain percentage of insect and stuff in it that we’d prefer not be in our food. Your babies will be fine….

    • Melissa19023

Your kids must be older for you to write such a thing or you probably work for Similac. I do not have a choice to say hey let’s not eat a hot dog for dinner let’s eat something else. M y child d is 3 months and is on formula. . I would never eat anything with beetles in it so why the heck would i let my baby?

    • Amberlina Kitsume

No offense to you but what if it was your child who had infected formula…? I have a 7 month old who has woken up screaming because his stomach is hurting him so much… You say that our children will be fine but unless you have a child who is on this formula and is in pain do not say they will be fine…

      • Cocobutterfly

I agree. Tonight at dinner before watching the news, I was speaking to my in-laws about how my 10 month old son keeps screaming out in his sleep even when I am holding him. I was worried he had some undiagnosed bowel problem and decided that I was going to call his pediatrician tomorrow. I am still going to call, but at least I have more information to go by. All of the formula in our house was affected by the recall.

  • Ruby

i just called the local walmart an the lady said all its mostly the formulas that are over 22 oz and the lot numbers for the 12.4 oz are 1182143 38355rb6

My husband called our “local grocery store” about 30 minutes ago… they didn’t know anything about the recall… this is ridiculous! If they know parents are freaking out and worrying… then they should be providing a better source for us to look up this information!

i just spoke with someone and they said that if you formula is from michigan abbott labortories that most likely it is on the recall list… the best way to make sure is call ur local walmart they get all recalled upc and lots for every recall… i just called them and they told me mine was safe..

    • Megg1018

      walmart doesnt even know

  • Dina

Lot number 90398T20 is recalled…I checked on the Similac homepage…I have a pantry full of this and my baby has gone through like 2 1/2 containers so far!! No one will answer the phone.. I am so pissed right now!

    • Threeblindmice020406

dont pissed when u get ahold of them they are volunteers! It is not there fault it is similacs fault! you can ask for a reimbursement and try to talk to a coordinator about the issues at hand!

  • Coriean

Another possible recall number is 91491T20. It seems that the infected products are more recently manufactured. I have a container that expires in April 2011 and that is not recalled. It would seem that most of the recalled products have expiration dates of Feb or Mar 2012. If you are not sure and need to get formula for your child it would be safer to purchase product that expires before 2012.

  • Lileva929

The recall includes certain Similac powder product lines that come in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce, and 12.9-ounce cans. Abbott liquid formula is not a part of the recall.

Abbott said that parents and caregivers can go to http://www.similac.com/recall10 or call Abbott’s consumer hotline, (800) 986-8850, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for more information.

this is all the information i can find on it. the line is busy and the page wont load for me either. hope this helps.

  • Allison Obert

90377T20 is affected. Just talked to BabiesRUs and they said to bring the formula in if you got it there and they’ll give you store credit. This really sucks. I just changed to Enfamil, my doctor said it is basically the exact same formula, but Enfamil has more vitamins. Hope that helps
