Senator Richard T. Moore has either deluded himself or is intentionally misleading readers. The truth of the mandatory purchase of private insurance law was better described by one of Senator Moore's fellow legislators who made this statement:

“The only thing worse than no insurance at all is being forced to buy an insurance product that you cannot afford to use. That is what we will be doing to many citizens of this Commonwealth.”

SO, NPR blog readers (btw it's not really a blog, it's more of a PR Machine), don’t be fooled by Sen. Moore's misleading hype; the MA mandatory insurance law forces people to pay for stripped down policies that have limited benefits and high deductibles (some with $2k for an individual and $4k for a couple), high co-pays, and up to 20% "co-insurance" AFTER the deductible is met!!! Because of this Senator Moore can crow "we have 97% coverage" but he neglects to describe the quality of that coverage. Some might way that's dishonest.

The architects of this misguided law include Senator Richard Moore, Senator Jarrett Barrios who now is on the payroll of MA BCBS various MA Blue Cross Blue Shield Executives, John McDonough who presided over giving BCBS executive Bill VanFaasen a "Lifetime Achievement Award" and VanFaasen then took a $20Mil golden parachute from MA BCBS.

Yes, there is an urgent need for health reform in this state and in this nation. The MA Plan is not the way to achieve it and doesn't even deserve to be called "reform".
